If you want to learn more about the world around you, its various cultures and how society shapes our behaviors, earn your sociology degree from Post University. Our program provides you with a strong foundation for working with and serving diverse groups of people in any setting. As a graduate, you may secure sociology jobs in human/social service agencies, administrative support or management positions. Many of our students go on to pursue their graduate education in sociology, human services, social work, psychology, law or criminal justice to enhance their knowledge and skills further and move ahead in their careers.

Program Highlights
In this program, you will examine human behavior as it exists in individuals and groups, organizations, and communities. You will learn to contribute to the betterment of society through social research, education and community outreach, while meeting the standards set forth by the American Sociological Association in the areas of ethics, integrity, social responsibility and respect for people’s rights, dignity and diversity. Upon completion of your sociology classes, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of sociological theories and concepts, society, and social issues
  • Possess the skills necessary to assess and evaluate the impact of social institutions on human behavior
  • Recognize, evaluate and interpret structural inequalities based on race, class, gender and religion
  • Recognize and comprehend the use of sociological research
  • Utilize, apply and comprehend appropriate communication skills regarding society and social issues

Though internships are not required, many of our students find opportunities at local organizations. By adding an internship to your academic experience, you may gain valuable hands-on experience to better prepare for the real world.

Not only does our curriculum emphasize the practical and applied aspects of sociology, but also our instructors bring years of in-field experience and insights into the classroom. Many of our courses include knowledgeable guest speakers and hands-on opportunities to get involved locally.

General Sociology
This 15-credit-hour concentration gives you a broad overview of the sociology field and its various subsets. You will take a range of sociology classes that cover topics such as human behavior, gender, age and deviant behavior.

Explore the relationship between psychology and sociology. This 15-credit-hour concentration introduces you to the fundamentals of psychology, youth development, the life course, society and the individual, and abnormal behaviors. 

Legal Studies
Gain insights into how laws and the legal system affect individuals, families, and society at large. In this 15-credit-hour concentration, you will also learn legal terminology that may assist you in future work with legal agencies.
