Academic Background:

Professor Gibbs received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Human Services from Quinnipiac University. She continued her education at Fairfield University receiving her Master’s degree in Community Counseling and then went on to complete her 6th year degree of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine.

Teaching Background:

Professor Gibbs has experience teaching in higher education since 2000 both on-ground and online. During this time she has taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and has developed courses for programs in Counseling and K-12 curriculums.  She currently teaches at Post University as an associate faculty member in the Masters in Human Services program.

Teaching Philosophy:

Her educational philosophy is grounded in her studies as a professional counselor which conceptualizes learning, human behavior, and interpersonal relationships. A good teacher recognizes the complexity of student learning and the differentiation needed to meet the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of all students.  Furthermore, while what happens in the classroom is central to good teaching, it cannot fully define good teaching and one must recognize that what happens outside of the classroom is of equal importance. Communication is also crucial as is student engagement. A level of flexibility and responsiveness must balance clear student learning expectations that foster student independence, accountability, and challenges each student to grow professionally.

Personal Background:

Carrie Gibbs is married with two young children, ages 5 and 7.  In her spare time she is a certified Zumba instructor and spends a great deal of time watching her daughters engage in sports and activities.
