In today's competitive job market, it's not enough to be an expert in your field. You must also be able to communicate what you know clearly and effectively. According to a 2006 student survey by The Conference Board, too many students don't have the writing skills they need to compete. A few statistics to consider:

The Writing Center can help.
Post University is dedicated to developing and improving the written communication skills of all our students. The University Writing Center supports this dedication by providing insights, tips, and training concerning the writing process and the art of presentation to both students and staff.
Post University requires writing across all phases of each student's curriculum, and The Writing Center is an active participant in this requirement. This means that students are expected to complete at least one writing assignment for each class they take, learn the writing styles of their content areas, and learn the strategies of presenting an acceptable argument in each field.
The University Writing Center will work with students to refine their organization, critical thinking, grammar, structure, and style skills so they can produce quality written and presentation materials. These skills are extremely important for online students, who earn their degrees exclusively through written communication.
The Writing Center helps students learn to:
Brainstorm and generate ideas for writing
Understand the writing process and develop strategies that work
Identify ways to improve writing and think clearly
Revise, edit and proofread their own writing
Understand and use grammar correctly
Prepare a research paper
Properly cite sources and avoid plagiarism
Use styles and tones of writing appropriately
Develop and deliver presentations in PowerPoint and other programs
Online and regional students can receive all of the services listed above through email consultations, providing them the opportunity to improve writing skills with experienced professional staff.
The Writing Center does not provide editing or proofreading, but overall content-level comments and specific sentence-level comments within the text of the paper in bolded brackets. We also provide links to websites that allow students to acquire the writing skills they need. A writing issue might be modeled and an explanation given for the first incident, and students would then be responsible for correcting similar errors that follow. Students must send an attachment of their drafts in Microsoft Word, and they must include in the body of the email the course, professor, and exact wording of the assignment.
