For Our Community!
Waterbury is more than a welcoming community; it is our home. Post University is dedicated to serving the needs of our community—academically, professionally, and personally.
Post takes corporate social responsibility seriously by investing our time and funds in the greater Waterbury , collecting food donations for area shelters, increasing access to the arts for local youth, and more. The University is also a supporter of the United Way of Greater Waterbury (UWGW). In addition to the contributions of staff and students, Post CEO & President John L. Hopkins chaired the 2020-21 “Be the Reason” campaign that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for UWGW — over $169,900 from Post alone.
And when the University expanded into the city, we deliberately chose to support downtown Waterbury life, beginning by moving our online learning operations there and developing a technological hub to support the needs of a growing online student body. Today, Post Downtown is a shining example of downtown revitalization, embodying our unwavering support for our Waterbury.
To Lend a Helping Hand!
Our University does more than donate dollars. We match our money with action through hands-on civic engagement. Students volunteer as an opportunity for learning and exploration adjacent to classroom activities while faculty and staff enrich the educational experience through community service.
Plus, with over 2,361 hours spent helping 22 organizations in and around Waterbury, our student athletes are also actively engaged in the community. In fact, Post is ranked in the top 30 for volunteer hours as reported by Helper Helper, an online volunteer tracking tool used by Division II athletic programs
For Service Through Strategic Partnerships!
One way we support our community is through strategic partnerships with area organizations, both public and private. One such partnership is with the Connecticut/Rhode Island Alliance of YMCAs to give their employees access to education courses and customized leadership programs. In another partnership, University volunteers provide tax preparation services at no charge through an IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site designed to benefit qualifying taxpayers earning $66,000 or less.
In addition, we have hosted “Santa’s Back on Bank Street,” a community event that transformed the Post Downtown lobby into Santa’s Workshop. We also hold our Spring Commencement in the historic Palace Theater.
And we continue to look for ways to partner with like-minded organizations to support our community. Over the years, our associates and students have actively supported:
To Light the Way for Our Community!
Post also offers a digital sign placement program to support the service efforts of organizations in our community. So far, over a dozen community groups have used our digital boards on I-84 to promote their events and programs.
