Students are introduced to the history of gaming in the world, specifically electronic gaming in the past 50 years, as well as Esports in the world today. Topics to be covered are the current state of the multi-billion-dollar industry, the emerging trends in the market and the current state of competitive play. The course will emphasize the organizational and cultural changes that have taken place and their overall impact on society.
Operations Management in Gaming
This course focuses on the unique characteristics of the gaming industry as it applies to the focus of operations management. Students will become familiar with concepts and terminology of operations management such as forecasting, capacity planning, project management & quality controls for various markets such as game development, the event and competition space as well as livestreaming & media.
Foundation of Esports
Students are introduced to an in-depth analysis of the Esports business ecosystem, specifically the current state of the multi-billion-dollar industry, the emerging trends in the market and the current state of competitive play. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to manage people and processes within the Esports space and how to effectively navigate an organization in the industry to successful business outcomes.
Capstone I
This capstone acts as part one of a two-part capstone experience for the entire graduate program. This large-scale written assignment, broken over two courses, offers the learner the opportunity to synthesize what they learned during the course of the program and demonstrate their mastery of the concepts. Students will build a culminative written assignment that will result in a final thesis that conveys an understanding of all expected program outcomes.
