Teaching Philosophy

I heard this saying once and it always rang true to me about the impact of being an educator. “True teaching is teaching people how to think, not what to think. All students have a critical thinking eye; it must be opened. That’s what my role is. The education received outside the classroom is just as valuable, possibly more so, than the education received within the classroom. There is a disconnect if the student’s outside world is not enhanced by what is learned in class. The two should complement each other, not conflict.”
