As with any foray into a competitive arena, you will begin your sport management studies with the foundations of the field. Then you’ll take deep dives into specific areas in the business of sports, such as societal sport, sport administration, sport events and facility management, sport marketing, sport law, and sport economics. In each course, an emphasis is placed on adapting to the fast-paced change of sport management, integrating business concepts, building communication skills, and developing a highly ethical and professional business management style. You’ll also examine global perspectives for sports, as there are any number of opportunities in the business to be found around the world.  

Before graduating, you will complete an internship which will allow you to gain valuable hands-on experience in a sport management setting. Based on your career aspirations, you may find internship opportunities with professional sports teams, collegiate and high school athletic departments, YMCAs, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. 

 

What can you do with a bachelor’s in sport management? 

Upon completion of studies of your sport management degree program, you could find yourself pursuing a number of critical management and leadership roles in sports business.

Sport Management Degree Concentrations 

Once you complete your core courses in the field of sport management, you will have the opportunity to tailor your degree to your specific career objectives with a concentration in Sport Communication or Sport Psychology. 

Sport Communication

This concentration allows you to expand your knowledge in the subject area of communication, publicly, professionally, and personally. You’ll explore the history of sports broadcasting, dive into social media, and brush up on your communication skills in areas ranging from press releases to media guides to press conferences 

Sport Psychology

In addition to covering fundamentals of psychology in general and psychology in a sport setting, curriculum for your Sport Psychology concentration will have you examining ways to handle and manage different personality types.
