Assistant Provost

JOB SUMMARY:

Assistant Provost sits on the Provost’s Council and the University Leadership Team as a key member of the academic leadership.  This position assists the Provost in the administration of Academic Affairs, which includes the academic service departments (the Center for Academic Success, the Library, and Instructional Design) and five Schools and College (The Baldrige School of Business, the Burke School of Public Service and Education, the School of Arts & Sciences, the American Sentinel College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and the School of Continuing Education).  In collaboration with the Provost, the Assistant Provost is responsible for faculty development, training of all University departments on academic programs and policy, and ensuring the quality of teaching and learning at Post University.  The Assistant Provost reports to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer.  This position is on-site at the Waterbury, CT campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve on the Provost’s Council and the University Leadership Team, collaborating as a cross-departmental leader at the University
  • Work with Provost and Deans to design and offer faculty training and development opportunities to full time and Associate (adjunct) Faculty.  These trainings may be in support of University objectives, new technology implementation, and/or faculty scholarly activity
  • Act as the Associate Faculty’s primary contact with the Provost’s Office by communicating University-wide updates and information on behalf of Academic Affairs
  • In collaboration with the Eagle Institute, design and offer training on updates to academic programs and policies for departments outside of Academic Affairs
  • Support Instructional Design in continuous improvement to the excitement and engagement opportunities in current courses and the exploration and implementation of next generation course delivery
  • Oversee academic student services, including the Center for Academic Success, the University Library, the Academic Integrity Officer, and the Course Materials coordinator.  Support each of these departments in developing and driving strategy objectives and initiatives, in alignment with the Academic Affairs and University strategies
  • In collaboration with the Provost, Deans, and Director of Accreditation, draft communications and applications to CT Office of Higher Education and the New England Commission of Higher Education.  With the support of the Executive Assistant to the Provost, ensure that the program docket remains accurate
  • Work with Marketing to ensure academic content on the University website current and accurate
  • Coordinate National Honors Societies faculty advisors to identify and notify candidates of their acceptance into one (or more) of Post’s nine Societies
  • Collaborate with the Provost in reviewing and responding to student and parent concerns related to Academic Affairs
  • Act as a liaison, as needed, for the Office of the Provost in faculty governance and other University meetings and events, and stand in for the Provost at events and meetings, as needed.
  • Support the Provost in driving the Academic Affairs strategy through leadership of special projects and initiatives, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Doctorate or other terminal degree preferred
  • 6-10 years of experience in higher education, required
  • Commitment to the values inherent in diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education- both in the classroom and online, required
  • Demonstrated experience with innovative course and curriculum design for both on ground and online modalities, required
  • Experience using Blackboard or other Learning Management System, required
  • Experience with tutoring centers- both in the classroom and online, preferred
  • Experience with academic policy development and implementation
  • Experience with regional and programmatic accreditors (i.e. NECHE, ACBSP)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive, supportive, outgoing work style
  • Excellent organizational and project-management skills: outstanding ability to prioritize workload while completing multiple projects and trouble-shooting concerns submitted from multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to build and foster excellent working relationships across departments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs
  • Student-focused approach
