JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Nursing Education is responsible for the management, coordination, and development of nursing instructional programs and for implementing its educational and professional objectives. The Director has several areas of responsibility: Management, Teaching, Program and Curriculum Development, and general duties as assigned by the Dean.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Management: 

  • Plans, administers, analyzes, monitors, evaluates and assists with the development and maintenance of the nursing programs’ activities and ensures compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.

  • Prepares all and any reports required by State and Federal government and regulatory agencies.

  • Manages the nursing faculty pool as it relates to undergraduate and/or graduate nursing programs, including but not limited to screening, hiring, evaluating, monitoring, and accountability of all faculty related to ensuring quality delivery of all programs.

  • Serves as a member of the university’s administrative team and carries oversight responsibility for curriculum accuracy and integrity, as well as a close relationship with OEI, advising, student life, and student retention.

  • Plans and administers the program’s financial resources. Establishes enrollment and budgetary projections in coordination with the Dean. Manages operations within established budget and available resources.

  • Identifies needs and establishes a plan for capital improvements and purchases.

  • Provides leadership in the development, and review of nursing program policies, and assures compliance with state, federal and accrediting agency regulations, and standards.

  • Continuously searches for new and innovative ways to improve quality of the Program and particularly the curriculum.

  • Supplies the supporting offices with necessary information vital for the Program maintenance and development such as marketing, admissions, financial aid, and the office of student information and records.

  • Participates in University governance activities as requested.

Teaching:

  • The Director will be expected to teach 4 courses / or (12 credits) within a calendar year. However, the teaching load will vary based on the level of activity in other areas of responsibility, and the Dean may approve a different teaching load.

Program and Curriculum Development: 

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, management, and assessment of the undergraduate and/or graduate nursing programs to insure compliance with accreditation and institutional standards.

  • Develop nursing curricula to achieve the mission, goals and expected program outcomes.

  • Update and revise course content and teaching methodology to ensure currency and relevance.

  • Actively seek ways to improve instruction quality.

  • Maintain familiarity with current texts, electronic course materials, teaching aids and techniques relative to courses within nursing and recommend their adoption when appropriate.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes, monitors and maintains nursing programmatic accreditation based upon accreditation standards, stated mission, goals, and expected program outcomes.

  • Assures OHE and NEASC standards are met in the respective programs.

  • Work closely with the Dean to develop the strategic direction for the school/department.

  • Engages nursing faculty to carry out the school / department strategic plan.

  • Other duties as assigned by Dean.

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must hold an unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse and possess a graduate degree in nursing and an earned doctoral degree.

  • Possess a minimum of five years of progressively greater responsibility at a supervisory and leadership level in academic or administrative nursing with proven leadership ability.

  • Experience with nursing education accreditation is preferred.

  • Actively engage in clinical nursing practice to maintain clinical expertise or the pursuit of scholarly work that enhances the nursing program and the University’s mission.

  • Experience teaching in the traditional classroom and/or online.

  • Professional experience in a nursingelated field.

  • Prior development of nursing curriculum and courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

  • Experience using assessments to improve teaching or nursing programs.

  • Desire to shape the future of a regionally accredited career-focused educational institution.

  • Creative and interested in providing an outstanding learning experience for students.

  • Student-focused approach.

  • Positive attitude and leadership ability.

  • Excellent written communication skills – ability to perform scholarly activities appropriate for a teaching institution.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs, knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are required.
