Director for the Police Recertification Program

Post University is seeking a Director for the Police Recertification Program to join our growing team.

The Director for the Police Recertification Program (Program) has several areas of responsibility, but the primary focus is Sales Management. Other responsibilities include Program and Course Development, Leadership, SCE Operations and Programs, and general duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Continuing Education (SCE). There is a dotted-line connection to the Dean of the Burke School of Public Service and Education for curriculum development and with the Vice President of Partner Engagement for sales activities. Additionally, the Director will work closely with the Dean of the SCE to provide coordination of programmatic and operational activities within the SCE for non-Police Recertification Programs, as needed. This is a full-time, on-campus position. Some remote work may be required as determined by the Dean of the SCE. Travel will be required for promoting and selling the Program.


Sales Management

  • Develops and implements a sales strategy for selling the Program to police departments throughout Connecticut (and later, in other states) – creates contacts, develops relationships, discusses the needs of each department, demonstrates the courses and technical system capabilities, plans the priority of activities, etc.
  • Creates processes for tracking the sales cycle for all police departments and maintains accurate up to date records
  • Attends events and conferences as an active participant, speaker, or vendor to build brand, demonstrate the Program, and develop sales leads; Invites other Post Associates to support sales activities at events, as needed
  • Prepares and maintains weekly reports regarding sales activities and signings
  • Discusses pricing with police departments that follows the set pricing; Determines customized pricing in conjunction with and by approval of the Dean of the SCE
  • Keeps abreast of the courses and activities of competitors in order to ensure the Program remains competitive in the market
  • Develops agreements and memorandum of understandings with municipal and state police agencies and law enforcement professional organizations to grow the Program
  • Meets or exceeds sales targets developed in collaboration with the Dean of the SCE

Program and Course Development:   

  • Continues to develop online courses that meet the training needs of police departments, within POST-C standards
  • Oversees the creation of interesting and attractive elective courses to maintain interest based on societal issues, new laws, and police needs, in addition to maintaining required courses for police officers
  • Ensures all courses are up to date with current laws
  • Hires Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who are POST-C certified instructors to develop courses; Supervises the process of SME interaction with the Instructional Design (ID) team to produce quality courses
  • Explores new and innovative ways to improve the content and quality of the Police Recertification Program courses
  • Coordinates set-up and operational features of course access in Post University systems and website in collaboration with the ID and IT teams, and the Webmaster
  • Coordinates the ongoing process of course and programmatic assessment with the input of police officers enrolled in the Program and their department leadership; Institutes change as needed and continues the cyclical process of assessment and adaptation of change


  • Hires, manages, supports, develops, and evaluates POST-C certified instructors in the effective creation of high-quality courses, and as they meet related goals and initiatives
  • Develops and maintains the Program’s activities and ensures compliance with internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Supports participating police agencies by serving as the program liaison, providing necessary information and reports, and soliciting and receiving feedback on the quality and effectiveness of program delivery
  • Collaborates across departments and externally to innovate and shape the future growth of the Program, the SCE, and Post University
  • Supplies supporting offices at Post University—e.g., Instructional Design, Marketing, Partner Engagement, etc.—with necessary information vital for the maintenance, promotion, and expansion of the Program
  • Participates in University governance activities, as necessary

SCE Operations and Programs:

  • Assists the Dean and other Associates in the SCE with programs and projects as needed during times of high volume, special events, or as priorities change


  • Ensures Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST-C) standards are met by the Police Recertification Program
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the SCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience as a police training officer or training director preferred
  • Sales experience or an ability to effectively interact and build confidence with police administrators
  • Prior police curriculum and course development experience within the State of Connecticut
  • POST-C police instructor certification in multiple areas, with experience teaching police recertification courses in a traditional classroom and/or online setting
  • Prior or current teaching and/or other work experience that shows at least 5 years of progressively responsible leadership and innovation experience
  • Positive attitude and proven leadership ability
  • Customer-focused approach toward police officers and their leadership
  • Provide an outstanding and creative learning experience for Program participants
  • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively  
  • Experience using assessments to improve teaching and programs is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform scholarly activities appropriate for a teaching institution
  • Proficiency in the use of virtual, web-based communication tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs, especially Excel and Word, and other relevant work productivity programs such as Samepage
