Instructional Designer

Post University is seeking an Instructional Designer (Full-time) to join our team.

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Instructional Designer serves as a member of the Instructional Design (ID) team working collaboratively with members of the ID team, Program Chairs, Subject Matter Experts, and administrators in the support and development of online master courses with the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS). The individual will provide leadership in instructional design best practices and processes, guidance on the writing and alignment of course objectives, discussion questions, and formative and summative assessments.

This is a 12-month position, working remotely in the United States, on Eastern time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Design high quality instructional content and materials in synchronous and asynchronous collaboration with key stakeholders following the standards of our Post Quality Assurance rubric. 
  • Manage the Instructional Design process for multiple courses in each design cycle by collaborating effectively with each course design team to meet design deadlines and resolve any issues.
  • Keep the Director of Instructional Design informed of course design progress and issues.
  • Upload and format course content into the Blackboard LMS and complete the course copy process when the design is complete.
  • Collaborate with faculty regarding effective online instruction and design and use of the LMS.
  • Develop and maintain instructional resources within various contexts, such as the online Faculty Resource Center.
  • Participate in testing of new LMS features.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the LMS features and functions.
  • Properly prepare for and participate in meetings that may be held face-to-face, on the phone, or in a video conference.
  • Keep current on distance education and instructional design theories, applications, and trends.
  • Serve as a member of the Instructional Design team and collaborate with and support its members as needed.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Instructional Design.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERFORMANCE: 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or Instructional Design.
  • At least two years of online instructional design experience.
  • Translate effective teaching theory and technology into meaningful learning experiences for students and faculty.
  • Knowledge of student-centered learning and learning theories, including andragogy.
  • Recognize and understand legal requirements to make instructional materials accessible in accordance with ADA compliance.
  • Knowledge of current copyright regulations and intellectual property concepts as they relate to the for-profit academic environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Office365 products and the Blackboard LMS, both Original and Ultra experiences.
  • Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills, flexibility, and outstanding customer service attitude, and attention to detail.
  • Work professionally, independently and collaboratively, in a remote office environment.
  • Take initiative, organize and prioritize tasks, and manage one’s own time to meet deadlines.
  • Creative and innovative thinker.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, or other equivalent degree.
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level.
