JOB SUMMARY:

Post University is searching for a self-motivated, goal-oriented individual to join our close-knit team of Military Advisors.  As a member of our Post University team, the individual will share in a 127-year tradition of helping people achieve their personal and professional goals. Located in Waterbury, Connecticut, Post University has a vibrant campus and an excellent online program. As a Military Advisor, you will be responsible for assisting new students from the enrollment process, all the way to graduation. This includes following up on new student inquiries, applications, requesting transcripts, evaluating transcripts, registration, and providing assistance to the Military student in obtaining Tuition Assistance. The MA supports adult students in our Accelerated Degree Program with academic advising and assistance with university processes. The MA maintains relationships with students and is a critical part of the university’s ongoing retention efforts. They present informational workshops, work closely with the Registrar’s Office, Military Student Accounts and Military Financial Aid to provide a high level of service to students, and maintains advising files for all Military Program students. Some evenings and weekend hours are required. Of primary importance will be to support the USAREC and NORU students enrolled to Post University as part of the University’s partnership agreements with these agencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Proactively maintains a relationship with advisees as a key part of the university’s retention efforts through regular email and phone contact (in some cases in-person contact).

  • Maintains contact with students to discuss degree program requirements, course selection, change of major, petition process, designate a minor.

  • Provides students with guidance related to academic progress, course selection, degree selection, and work/life/study issues.

  • Ensures that course selection is in line with the approved SOC Student Agreement.

  • Responsible for resolving academic related issues and cases in GoArmyEd.

  • Attain personal/individual new student and retention goals.

  • Updates degree program guides by request, and ensures that new degree plans are uploaded to the students’ military educational file as required by GoArmyEd or the Navy College Program.

  • Assists student with petitioning course(s) while keeping a log for tracking purposes.

  • Responsible for performing degree audits on Military Student Records as directed or required.

  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the Academic Military Student Information housed in the University’s Student Information System. Which includes but is not limited to: accurate degree plan, transfer credits, interactions, graduation petitions, current address (mailing and email), and telephone number.

  • Required to complete the graduation report for all GoArmyEd military enrolled students on the GoArmyEd portal.

  • Works closely with the Registrar’s Office, Military Student Accounts, and Military Financial Aid to assist students with university procedures.

  • Prepares Dean’s List certificates.

  • Identifies honor students for Excellence Convocation.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews office systems and suggest improvements.

  • Supervises work study students.

  • Provides student tracking reports to university management.

  • Completes transfer credit evaluations for military program students.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, dedicated, and able to multi-task. Knowledge of Military Tuition Assistance, GI Bill Benefits, and other military related educational programs is desirable. Must have a customer focused philosophy in working with potential students.  Prior military experience is desired, but not required. Must be able to learn quickly and adapt. Must have excellent communication, listening and customer service skills and an engaging phone presence.  Other desirable traits or experience:

  • Veteran/Military experience preferred, as well as knowledge of Military education programs.

  • One to three years’ experience in an academic environment or counseling.

  • Bachelor’s degree required: master’s degree preferred.

  • Energetic and goal-oriented; Strong interest in working in a fast paced environment that requires multi-tasking.

  • Problem solver; is a solutions-oriented person.

  • Must hold customer service at a high premium.

  • Enjoys working with and supporting adult students.

  • Excellent phone, email, and face-to-face communication skills; maintains a positive attitude.

  • Good computer skills; able to use Microsoft Office products and learn university systems.

  • Good organization skills and able to keep consistent contact with 250-350 advisees.

  • Must be detail oriented.

  • Works well in a team environment; enjoys working as a contributing member of the Advising team.
