Senior Application Systems Architect

JOB SUMMARY:

Sentinel U creates virtual nursing simulations and clinicals that are engaging, effective and convenient for learners to safely learn anywhere.  Our growing portfolio of forward-thinking learning and training resources leverage the latest in digital simulation, virtual (voice) agents, and other relevant technologies.  We have a base of nursing school clients and we’re expanding into healthcare professional development training.  Our virtual EdTech products integrate into nursing academic and healthcare professional development programs that enhance learning by offering practice experience while building confidence and critical thinking skills.  

Sentinel U is a division of American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University with over 20 years of online education experience, exclusively focusing on nursing and healthcare professionals.  Sentinel U has delivered over 150,000 virtual clinical learner experiences and counting.  

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Senior Application Systems Architect is responsible for system architecture and development of the Sentinel U simulations and systems. This role enables Sentinel U software products to be commercially available through an internal portal and external connections. A key element of this position is pushing forward the innovation goals for the institution for next-generation online delivery of education.

DUTIES:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, lead the creation of and assist in creating Functional, UI, and Quality Requirements Documents; find and fill gaps, inconsistencies or other issues in requirements documents.
  • Create Technical and Software Requirements Documents for database, applications, and operation system environment; Continually improve software development standards documentation.
  • Consult with end users to test and debug applications to meet Sentinel U’s needs; Assist the team in addressing Tier 2/3 support issues; Design and build solutions that reduce the need for help desk calls.
  • Design and develop the backend that provides hosting, integration and reporting services for our simulation products.
  • Create technology strategies to support Sentinel U’s business growth needs; Create architectures that prioritize efficiency, security, maintainability, longevity.
  • Develop and maintain both back office and student facing applications and systems.
  • Research and test features for upgrades and new builds.
  • Perform other administrative duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and five years related experience; or ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with a variety development technologies including C#, SQL, and JavaScript.  Experience with Unity WebGL a plus.
  • Microsoft technology stack experience. Microsoft Azure systems such as Azure App Service, SQL Azure, Application Insights, and Azure DevOps a plus.
  • Experience managing an agile development methodology within Azure DevOps preferred.
  • At least five years of demonstrated experience and leadership in the field of information technology or related field; experience working with higher education is a plus.
