The 2010-2011 school year might have come to a close, but the faculty and staff at Post University haven’t slowed down one bit! Whether it’s teaching online courses over the summer, sharing their expertise, or getting involved in the community, our team continues to stay very busy. Here are just a few of their recent accomplishments. Congrats to each of you, and thank you for making Post University a better place every day.

Anthony Medaglia was appointed Interim Associate Director of Career Services on May 31. He has been with Post University for four years as an adjunct professor of marketing. Living by the mantra “teaching is a learning proposition,” his primary mission is to connect with his students and prepare them for future success through his work in the classroom and Career Services. Now that he has been appointed to this position, he can focus on helping each student discover and excel in his/her intended career path.

Chris Szpryngel, a member of the Post University School of Business faculty, was elected to the Board of Directors for the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (WSO) on June 22. The WSO promotes the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of symphonic and orchestral music, and has become a cultural staple of Waterbury. Its educational programs benefit the greater Waterbury community and promote its core belief that the study of musical instruments and participation in musical performance is an essential part of every child’s education.

Elizabeth Johnson, Ph.D., Academic Program Manager for our Environmental Science program, has been accepted to present at the ASA, CSSA, and SSSA International Annual Meeting (Soil Science Society of America Meeting) in San Antonio, Texas, in October. Her presentation will be based on her paper “Effect of Ephemeral Inundation on Soil Properties of Southern New England Vernal Pools.” The paper analyzes first-hand research performed by Dr. Johnson and three colleagues in Massachusetts and Connecticut over three growing seasons. Dr. Johnson will also be the keynote speaker at the Beacon Falls Community Discussion Forum in Beacon Falls, Conn., on Oct. 13.

Jay Murray, Director of Admissions, was a featured speaker at The Hobsons Users’ Conference July 6-9 in Washington, D.C. His topic, “Campus-wide Enrollment Management: Getting Everyone on the Same Team,” focused on how to maximize student recruitment efforts by integrating the admissions, financial services, advising, and marketing teams.

Jim Nardozzi, D.P.A., Acting Dean of Post College and Director of the Master of Public Administration program, has been appointed to the Waterbury Search Committee for the city’s new superintendent of schools. The search process entails a series of interviews with the five finalists, which commenced on July 18. A decision is expected to be reached by the end of the month. This important role is a reflection of Dr. Nardozzi’s reputation in the community as a valued expert in his field.

Doug Brown, J.D., Academic Program Manager for Post University’s MBA, Entrepreneurship concentration, presented “How to Energize Your Business Team for Profit and Growth” on July 12 as part of the Small Business Council Series through the Waterbury Regional Chamber.

Katey Baruth, Ph.D., Academic Program Manager, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Human Services, Alcohol & Drug Concentration; Peter Chepya, Esq., Academic Program Manager, Legal Studies; Mark Fazioli, Ph.D., Director of Instructional Design; and Zvi Goldman, Ph.D., Academic Program Manager, Master of Business Administration, Marketing concentration, have been accepted to present at the 17th Annual Sloan Consortium International Conference on Online Learning in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., this November. Baruth, Chepya, and Fazioli will present “Mobile Learning Data: An Analysis of Students’ Use of Mobile Devices in Higher Education.” The presentation reveals data on where, when, and how students in higher education are using mobile devices in college courses, and how schools can use the data for instructional design and online course strategies. Dr. Goldman will report and discuss the results of a year-long survey of discussion value, perceptions, and workload reported by students and instructors.

Congratulations to Scott Allen, Marcelo Parravicini, and Mike Statmore on their recent promotions! Scott Allen, who has served as Vice President of Finance and Administration since 2000, has been named Post University’s Chief Financial Officer. Marcelo Parravicini, who joined Post University in 2005 as the Director of Marketing, has been promoted to Chief Marketing Officer. And Michael Statmore, who joined the university in 2006 as Director of Information Technology, is now Post University’s Chief Information Officer.
