The Post University English Department and Communication and Media Studies Department are pleased offer a panel of four professional experts as they discuss Women in Media: #pressforprogress on March 22, 2018 on Post’s Waterbury campus. The event will also be livestreamed.
With the global activism of the #MeToo movement, #TimesUp and more, the International Women’s Day campaign has requested a call-to-action “to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.” Our panelists, who originate from a wide variety of professions and backgrounds, will discuss gender mindsets, challenges, and beliefs within their fields.
The panelists for this event are:
Katherine Ray: Katherine is an Executive Producer, Show Runner, and Technical Producer. She has an extensive resume in the film, television, and event industries. Katherine is also the Line Producer for Inside the Actor’s Studio, and is a member of The League of Professional Theatre Women, and Women in Film and Television.
Mary Donnarumma Sharnick: A Connecticut native, Mary is an accomplished author, editor/reviewer, and Department Chair of English at Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury. Her research has taken her to Venice, Italy, the Deep South, and monastic communities in Italy, Vermont, and Connecticut.
Sarah DeFilippis: Also a Connecticut native, Sarah is Senior Vice President, Branding & Marketing at Connecticut Public Broadcasting. She also is partner in the successful touring company, PranzoTours, which helps travelers find “the real Italy.” Sarah is a wife and mother of two daughters.
Sharon Burke: An Emmy Award winning news photojournalist with over 20 years of experience in broadcast media, Sharon has covered many high profile and national stories such as the Cheshire home invasions, has interviewed Vice President Dick Cheney, and was one of the first Connecticut photojournalists on the scene of the Boston Marathon Bombings.
Moderator: Ann Marie Somma is a long time Post University Associate Faculty member and has worked as a newspaper reporter, web producer, blog editor/writer, and a religion writer for various news organizations in Connecticut.
