I am pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Stevenson as our new Director of Campus Safety and Emergency Management.
Scott resides in Thomaston, CT, where he lives with his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Sydney, son, Zachary, and their beloved Golden Retriever, Hank.
Scott is a thirty-five year veteran of the emergency services, having worked as a paramedic from 1983 until his appointment to the Waterbury Police Department in 1995. During his law enforcement career, Scott rose to the rank of lieutenant and served as commander of the Community Relations Division and as chief-of-staff for Waterbury Police Chief Vernon Riddick. In these roles, Scott worked closely with neighborhood, civic and religious groups to address quality of life issues. In addition, Scott worked in conjunction with Main Street Waterbury to address concerns in the downtown central business district. Further, Scott delivered crime prevention presentations and safety training to a wide range of groups, including Post University students.
Following his retirement from the Waterbury Police Department, Scott was appointed Director of Operations for Northwest CT Public Safety Communications, providing regional emergency dispatch for local police, fire, and emergency medical services. In this capacity, Scott met regularly with partner representatives to plan school safety drills and other related events. Scott currently serves as a reserve police officer with the Thomaston Police Department.
In his new position, Scott will be responsible for creating a culture of safety throughout the University community, and will be working to include, in particular, students and associates in this process. Scott will lead the Securitas contract security personnel, direct the University Threat Assessment Team, and engage the University community in preparedness efforts, including safety training and emergency drills. He will be actively involved with Post online students, helping to ensure a safe and secure learning environment. Lastly, Scott will be responsible for working with the Waterbury Police Department to ensure our new facility in downtown Waterbury remains a safe and secure work environment.
In his spare time, Scott is the lead singer of Act 2 Acoustic, a three-piece band playing an eclectic mix of hits from yesterday and today.
