WATERBURY, Conn. – (May 1, 2025) – Post University is proud to announce its 2025 Commencement speaker and valedictorians who will be addressing the graduating class of 2025 at this year’s events. Two ceremonies will be held on Saturday, May 10 at the historic Palace Theater in Waterbury, Conn. The morning ceremony will honor all doctoral, graduate, and Main Campus undergraduate students, while the afternoon ceremony will celebrate online undergraduate students.
This year’s Commencement marks a significant milestone as Post celebrates the 25th anniversary of its online learning programs. The Class of 2025 reflects the broad impact of Post’s commitment to accessible education, representing more than 4,100 graduates, including 786 from Connecticut, 3,288 from out of state, and 68 international students. Throughout Commencement, Post will confer 79 doctoral, 325 master’s, and 2,036 bachelor’s degrees, representing a vibrant and diverse community of learners who have benefited from Post’s 25 years of online innovation.
Commencement Speaker: Regina Martin, M.Ed.
An inspiring educator and motivational speaker, Regina Martin, M.Ed., will deliver this year’s keynote address at both ceremonies. The founder of Dare to Dream Motivational Speaking and Coaching LLC and the author of “You Belong: Perspectives on Transitioning from High School to College,” Martin is an ardent advocate for student success. Her work spans over a decade in both secondary and postsecondary education, including her work with both TRIO and GEAR UP programs.
A Hamden, Conn. resident, Martin’s Commencement address will center around the resilience, purpose and importance of belonging – themes she brings to life throughout her experience as a mother, educator and motivational coach. Having worked with a number of students during their academic careers, Martin’s heartfelt insights and practical guidance are expected to resonate with graduates as they take their next steps as professionals in the workplace.
Main Campus Valedictorian: Breanna O’Brien
Breanna O’Brien, the 20-year-old legal studies major from Oakville, Conn., will serve as valedictorian for the 10 a.m. ceremony, which will honor all main campus undergraduate and graduate students. A longtime resident and former graduate from the local Nonnewaug High School, O’Brien completed her bachelor’s degree and paralegal certificate in just three years at Post. She is also an active member of the Law Club, serving as secretary since August 2024, as well as a proud participant in the Honors Program.
Known for her academic excellence and passion for the legal field, O’Brien plans to attend Quinnipiac University School of Law in the fall with a focus on becoming a probate attorney.
Accelerated Degree Program Valedictorian: Vernessa Beharry
Vernessa Beharry, a 24-year-old criminal justice major from Lexington, S.C., will be recognized as valedictorian for the 3 p.m. Commencement ceremony honoring all online undergraduate students. Born in New Jersery and raised in Trinidad, Beharry joined Post’s Honors Program early in during her journey and has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout her academic career. She has completed 12 Honors courses and will graduate with Honors Program Distinction.
Beharry is a dedicated advocate for justice, policy development and mentorship. As an Honors Ambassador and member of the Online Honor Student Board Advisory, she empowers others through leadership and academic support. Her plans include pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Post University.
