Post University accounting major, Jenna Abeyta ‘23, received surprise recognition from Crowe LLP, a public accounting, consulting, and technology firm with offices around the world, with an Accounting Excellence Award.  Crowe representatives, Post faculty, and associates gathered in the Board Room on the Country Club campus to present her the award.  Joining the celebration virtually were several members of Ms. Abeyta’s family, including her parents, her grandmothers and great uncle.

Abeyta, an honors student, completed her summer internship working for Crowe out of their Denver office last summer.  This was her first year with the firm.  As an intern, Abeyta has spent the summer in professional development opportunities, engaging in outreach, meeting with clients and working alongside accountants in the firm.  While Abeyta is looking at graduate schools obtain her Master of Science in Accounting, she has already received a job offer to join the Denver firm after graduation.

“Through the semesters, I’ve worked with Jenna; she has demonstrated a strong work ethic and a commitment learning, as well as shown discipline and self-motivation. We are all enormously proud of her and excited to see where this takes her in the future,” said Richard Dumont, program chair of the Post University Accounting Department in The Malcolm Baldrige School of Business.

In accepting the award, Abeyta acknowledged the support she received from not only her family but also the University. “Thank you for being by my side. Your support every day is how I got here today,” said Abeyta.

An active member of the campus community, Abeyta is a peer educator, a forward on the Women’s Ice Hockey team, Chair the Business Student Advisory Board and member of the Alpha Chi Honors Society.  She is also a volunteer for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.  She is past recipient of the Waterbury Chamber of Commerce Business Women’s Forum Scholarship.

Sixteen years ago, Post University alum Daniel Kusaila, a Crowe tax partner, initiated this internship program.  Currently, there are 13 students accounting alumni employed at Crowe.
