Before stepping into the world of academia, Dr. James Lee navigated an entirely different kind of classroom—beneath the ocean’s surface. With a degree in communications and coursework in fish biology and ocean environments, he seamlessly blended his passion for the natural world with hands-on experience. Working on a cruise ship gave him a front-row seat to marine life while allowing him to hone his skills in education, leadership, and adventure. This unexpected journey now informs his approach as the Dean of the University’s School of Arts & Sciences.
“My undergraduate degree was in communications, and I studied documentary film, but I also love the ocean, so I naturally became a diver,” Lee shares.
Merging his twin passions for filmmaking and the ocean, Lee worked on documentary projects for National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. He later took a role as a fleet naturalist for a major cruise line, where he traveled from island to island, offering ecological lessons for passengers eager to understand the delicate marine ecosystems surrounding them.
Lee joined Post University in the fall of 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a unique perspective. He holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Educational Psychology from Northeastern University, a Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies from Harvard University, and a degree in communications from the University of Miami. During his two decades in higher education, he has also served as a volunteer peer evaluator for the New England Commission of Higher Education, assessing academic programs at institutions within the New England region.
