When students arrive on campus, finding their place can feel both exciting and overwhelming. For Anastasia Dedgjonaj, now president of the Student Government Association (SGA), the turning point came with one simple piece of advice from her older sister, Simona: “Put yourself out there.”

Dedgjonaj, an international student from Albania majoring in Legal Studies in the John P. Burke School of Public Service and Education, first learned about Post University through her sister, a 2023 criminal justice graduate. Today, the two live together while her sister pursues a master’s degree in forensics at a nearby university.

At first, Dedgjonaj stayed focused on coursework, choosing the steady routine of commuting and studying. But her sister’s encouragement to look beyond the classroom became a defining moment.

During her sophomore year, Dedgjonaj joined the Law Club. What began as a way to connect with peers quickly became a gateway to leadership. Faculty members also recognized her determination, “Anastasia is a motivated student. She was active in promoting Constitution Day on campus, and in the spring, she completed a legal studies internship,” said Linda Latimer, her legal studies club advisor and chair of the Legal Studies program. With support from mentors, Dedgjonaj grew more involved, eventually running for student government. Her election as SGA president marked a milestone not only in her own journey but also in her commitment to helping other students find their voices.

“Each year at Post has been a journey of growth, learning, and incredible experiences,” she reflects. “When I first came to the United States, my English was not perfect, and I felt out of place. But if I can do it, so can other students.”

Her story highlights the power of campus involvement. Beyond building friendships, clubs and organizations provide opportunities to gain confidence, explore interests, and develop leadership skills.
