Gavin’s journey is not just about personal success; it’s about giving back and empowering others, exemplified by his presence as a frequent virtual guest speaker for student workshops offered by the University’s Center for Career and Professional Development.
Reflecting on his educational journey, Gavin’s passion for sports and his desire for a career in sport management led him to Post University in 2012, even as he served as a US Navy recruiter.
“From a young age, I’ve loved sports, loved being in the building where sports were played. For me, Post was a clear option…it had the degree and career path in sport management that I wanted,” expressed Gavin. While on active duty, Gavin took classes on a part-time basis. “From my advisor to the curriculum, what I learned helped me in my career. We covered sales, marketing, HR. It was all valuable and nothing but an asset for me,” explained Gavin.

Initially drawn to a potential role in a large hospital system in his community, fate intervened when Gavin received an offer from the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017. Although he didn’t immediately join the ranks of the human resource department, Gavin’s tenure with the organization began as Merchandise Concessions Manager where he showed his adaptability and willingness to take on new challenges. Progressing though roles as Training and Engagement Coordinator and then Manager of Training and Engagement. Gavin’s journey culminated in his current position as Director of Talent and Engagement, where he oversees a staff of two other full-time employees.
Throughout his career trajectory, Gavin has continuously enhanced his skills and qualifications, obtaining his Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification along the way. His diverse experiences, from overseeing concession merchandise operations to spearheading talent development initiatives, have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of organizational dynamics and the importance of fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
