A Message from the Title IX Office

As we kick off a new academic year, the Title IX Office extends a warm welcome to all students returning to campus. Whether you’re arriving for the first time or continuing your journey here, we want to remind everyone of the importance of respecting others and honoring personal boundaries.

College life is full of opportunities to connect, grow, and engage.  It is also a shared space where every individual deserves to feel safe, heard, and valued.

Here are a few ways we can all contribute to a respectful campus community:

  • Practice Consent: Always ask before initiating physical contact or entering someone’s personal space.
  • Honor Boundaries: Respect when someone says no—or simply seems uncomfortable.
  • Be an Active Bystander: If you see something that doesn’t feel right, speak up or seek help.
  • Support One Another: A kind word or a listening ear can make a big difference.

The Title IX Office is here to support you. If you have questions, concerns, or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out (203-596-6027).  Let’s work together to create a campus culture that promotes dignity, equity, and care for one another.

We wish you a safe and successful semester,

Barbara Alenckis and Rachel Powell

Tips for a Smooth Back-to-School

courtesy of SOAR

Whether you, your child(ren), or both are getting ready for back-to-school, the transition can be an adjustment.  Here are some tips to help you ease the anxiety and stress that often come with this time of year:

  • Prepare in advance. Know what to expect and how daily routines will change.  Consider mapping out a schedule or adjusting aspects of your daily routine to fit your new schedule.
  • Get up earlier. Start this new morning routine a few days before the first day of school to help you adjust to it.
  • Arrive early. Getting a head start on the first day will help you, and/or your kids, settle in and reduce any stress you/they may be feeling.
