Love, Respect, and Consent: Navigating Valentine’s Day Safely
Valentine’s Day celebrates love and connection, making it the perfect time to discuss healthy relationships built on mutual respect and clear consent. As we embrace romance this February, let’s prioritize creating safe, consensual experiences for everyone in our campus community.
Understanding Consent
Consent is an ongoing, enthusiastic agreement between all parties involved in any romantic or intimate activity. It must be freely given, can be withdrawn at any time, and cannot be given when someone is impaired by alcohol or drugs. Consent isn’t just about saying “yes”—it’s about ensuring everyone feels comfortable and respected throughout any interaction.
Valentine’s Safety Tips
Whether you’re planning a first date or celebrating with a longtime partner, communication is key. Discuss boundaries openly, respect your partner’s comfort levels, and remember that romantic gestures should never feel pressured or coercive. If you’re attending Valentine’s parties or events, look out for friends and intervene if you notice concerning situations.
Resources and Support
Post University is committed to supporting students who experience sexual misconduct. If you need assistance or want to report an incident, you have multiple options. Contact Director of Title IX and Disability Services Barbara Alenckis at 203.596.6027 or [email protected], or Senior Title IX Coordinator Rachel Powell at [email protected] and 203.591.5231. Both are available in North Hall 116. You can also report to Residence Life, Campus Safety, the Counseling Center, or trusted instructors and advisors.
Remember: healthy relationships thrive on respect, communication, and consent. Make this Valentine’s Day meaningful by celebrating love responsibly.

Virtual Campus Life Involvement Innovator:
Samantha Gabris
Virtual Campus Life is proud to present our February 2026 Involvement Innovator – Mrs. Samantha Gabris!
When Samantha (Sammi) returned to college, she was juggling being a mother, a wife, a student, and an active-duty Coast Guard member. Sammi quickly realized the social isolation that comes with being a virtual student and looked for peer involvement starting with the Honors Program to grow personally and professionally while finding my place in college; then stumbling upon virtual club life. When the opportunity to help reform an online student government to support virtual students was presented, Sammi jumped at the chance. Since then, club life has grown exponentially, and so has Sammi’s confidence, leadership skills, and sense of belonging. “Club life has given me a place where I fit in, where I can be myself, where everyone is welcome and valued, and where I can continue to develop skills that will benefit me at home, work, and in life. I continue to be involved in club life because it has made such an impact on me, personally and professionally, and I want to share those benefits with others, fostering a sense of community and helping build support systems as we all navigate online learning. Supporting my peers in finding their flock, meeting their goals, building friendships, and giving them a laugh when they need it is all the reason I need to keep being involved. Every one of my peers has infinite potential, and I am committed to supporting you all in achieving it.”
Involvement Innovators are Post University online students who are recognized for their initiative and passion in helping to strengthen the online student club community.
