University Updates Gender Identity Policy

These changes aim to create a more inclusive University community, especially for our LGBTQ students.  The updated policy recognizes that every individual not only has a right to express themselves but that the University is a safe space to do so.

“As always, our goal is to cultivate a community of inclusion, equity, and justice for all of our students,” Title IX and Disability Coordinator Jennifer Labate said.

Recently, the US Department of Education announced that Title IX protects students from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

“In tandem with Pride Month and the recent reversal from the Department of Education, we are pleased to announce updates to Post University’s Gender Identity policy,” Labate expressed.  “These changes further attest to our commitment to our students and their ability to express their gender identity in an environment free from harassment and discrimination.”

In addition, we offer several resources for LGBTQ students and allies through the Counseling CenterSOAR, and YOU@Post.  We’ve also recently established the LGBTQ+ Affinity Group, whose mission, in part, is to “promote acceptance, increase awareness, decrease prejudices and create a safe atmosphere” for all members of the University community.  These are just some of the many University-wide inclusion and diversity initiatives being undertaken to create a welcoming, equitable, and safe campus environment.

Current students can find more information and procedures for updating their chosen name and pronouns on our Gender Identity Policy website.  Any questions can be directed Title IX and Disability Coordinator, Jennifer Labate, at [email protected].
