Student Worker Spotlight: Faith Christian-Ferri, ’27, Honors Program Student Assistant

Did you know the Honors Program has a student worker? If you haven’t already had the pleasure to, meet Faith Christian-Ferri!
Faith is a junior Communication and Media Studies major and has been a part of the Honors Program since coming to campus her first year back in 2023.
We had the chance to ask Faith a few questions about her time with Honors, and here is what she had to say:

What made you want to work for the Honors Program?
Starting college is a very bizarre, surreal experience. Reality shifts, the rules change, and everything is cool and scary all at once. Joining the Honors Program was the only step that I “got.” When I sat down with Caitlin for my onboarding, everything was clear and concise, expectations were set, and I instantly felt safe. Figuring out where to sit in the dining hall, using community showers, trying to befriend my roommate—none of that made sense, but becoming an Honors student did. Being a nerd has always been kind of my thing. I knew the Honors Program could be my thing, too. When I saw the Honors Program Student Worker position open, I thought of Caitlin, who was still a stranger to me, but also the first person to truly make me feel like I had a place at Post. Right then and there, I decided it was time to stop hovering at the edge and jump in.

What do you do in your role?
I go where I’m needed, I do the little things that need to get done, and I try to come to work every day as the most cheerful, optimistic version of myself. I take pride in the responsibility; I have a system and I’m meticulous. No matter what task I am given, even if I’m just stuffing envelopes, it’s important to me that I do it well. After all, the little things matter. If the Honors team can trust me to take care of welcome packages, folders, and flyers for events, they can direct their energy toward running the best Honors Program possible.

What advice would you give a student who wants to join the Honors Program?
Your experience in the Honors Program will be what you make it. Come to as many events as possible. Being an Honors student means stepping outside the lines we draw around ourselves and call identity. Identity is ever-changing, and it’s not something you find or come into, but something you grow. That growth is what college is all about.

What is a fun fact about you?
Fun fact: I started crocheting because I figured I needed a hobby to make myself sound more interesting. It gives me something to talk about when I’m asked questions like this. I’m proficient in the Japanese art of amigurumi, which I like to say because it sounds fancy. Amigurumi means creating dolls, animals, and objects with yarn. Usually, I make animals, but I did once get a commission to crochet a Harley for a motorcycle enthusiast. It’s a fun craft, and I love that I can make people happy by giving them a handmade piece. Every member of the Honors Team owns something crocheted by me.

Come One, Come All…

Join the Art Department on Thursday, November 6, between 11 AM and 1 PM for our First Annual Open House!

Our artists and instructors will be located in the MacDermid Hallway during the span of the event to discuss the work produced in the Painting, Drawing, and Ceramics courses this Fall.

A brief awards ceremony will take place during the event to highlight eight of our outstanding artists this semester.

Light refreshments will be served.

STUDENTS:  After your visit, pick up an exit slip to write a brief reflection about your experience. Present the exit slip to one instructor for an extra credit opportunity.

Photo of the Week

Online student Jessica recently popped by our Waterbury campus for a visit.  We may be biased, but with the leaves changing, they picked the most beautiful time of year to see the campus for themselves.
