Procrastination serves as a protective mechanism. We tend to steer clear of the discomfort associated with our unconscious thoughts and instead pursue desirable distractions. By facing our thoughts head-on and pushing through the unease, we can reduce procrastination.

  1. Avoid the words “I have to…” or “I should…”
These types of phrases imply that you have no choice, that you won’t do it unless you must. For example, avoid saying to yourself: “I have to study”
  1. Say “I choose to…”, or I am ready to…”
For example: “I choose to study now”, or “I am ready to study”. This way of thinking implies that you have control of the situation.
  1. Count down: “5,4,3,2,1…” and do it!
Trust yourself and start things that you feel confident in!

Top 3 Tips to Prepare for the Career Fair on October 22!

Attending the Center for Career and Professional Development’s Career Fair is a great opportunity to network with potential employers, learn about job and internship opportunities, and make a strong professional impression.  Here are the top 3 tips to make the most of the Career Fair:

1. Update Your Resume: ensure it is tailored to the industries you are interested in.  Bring multiple copies, printed on high-quality paper (if possible)

2. Be Confident and Friendly: when meeting with employers, smile, make eye contact, and greet recruiters with a firm handshake

3. Send Thank-You Emails: send a thank you email to each recruiter you spoke with no later than a day or two after the Career Fair.  In your thank you email, mention something specific from your conversation to remind them of who you are
