Mindfulness is paying attention, deliberately and non-judgmentally to each moment of your life. Mindfulness practices can help us to increase our ability to regulate emotions, decrease stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also help us to focus our attention, as well as to observe our thoughts and feelings without judgment.
Here is an easy exercise that promotes mindfulness and allows you to take a moment for yourself to be present each day:
Mindful walking: Whether it’s just getting up from your desk and going to the printer or going for an hour walk with your dog, here’s what you can do to bridge the gap between everyday motions and tasks.
- Pay attention to the ground underneath your feet.
- The shifting of your weight & pace.
- Thoughts
- The air around you.
- Try to slow down, center yourself in the present moment, and walk with confidence.
Remind yourself to be in the moment, taking each step as it comes, accepting each moment, and paying attention.
