Dean of Arts & Sciences
Before stepping into the world of academia, Dr. James Lee navigated an entirely different kind of classroom—beneath the ocean’s surface. With a degree in communications and coursework in fish biology and ocean environments, he seamlessly blended his passion for the natural world with firsthand experience. Working on a cruise ship gave him a front-row seat to marine life while allowing him to hone his skills in education, leadership, and adventure. This journey now informs his approach as the Dean of the University’s School of Arts & Sciences. Read more about Dr, Lee here
Meet Dr. Malakpour
Dr. Hamid Malakpour brings a unique blend of academic expertise, professional experience, and a deep commitment to student success in his role as Interim Dean of The Malcolm Baldrige School of Business. With advanced degrees in engineering, business, and educational leadership, Dr. Malakpour combines technical knowledge, business acumen, and proven leadership to prepare students for today’s competitive and fast-changing world.
As a faculty leader, he has overseen student engagement with Bloomberg tools and programs, ensuring that students have access to real-world financial platforms used by top companies and institutions worldwide. His commitment to hands-on, career-relevant learning helps students graduate with not only knowledge, but also practical skills valued by employers.
Dr. Malakpour has been twice recognized with the Faculty Impact Award, an honor given by students to celebrate professors who have made a meaningful difference in their academic journey. This recognition reflects his passion for teaching, his mentorship, and the personal care he extends to students.
Dr. Malakpour and the faculty in the business school support, challenge, and inspire students to achieve their goals both in the classroom and in their future careers.
Post Pride at the Connecticut Sun
The University was well represented at Mohegan Sun Arena during the Connecticut Sun’s 2025 Women of Inspiration celebration.
Molly Tardif and Madison Whitlock, both juniors and graduates of The Early College High School at Crosby in Waterbury, were each awarded $5,000 Three for Degrees scholarships by the Connecticut Sun—recognition of their hard work and dedication.
Dr. Patrice Farquharson, longtime Post professor and executive director of the West Haven Child Development Center, was honored for more than 40 years of advancing early childhood education.
Give Your Student a Nudge Toward Scholarships
Sometimes students need a little reminder about why scholarships are worth their time. If you’re looking for a way to encourage yours to apply, here are two powerful reasons they can make a difference.
- Scholarships help students have more time to focus on their studies. Research shows that work can take up more than 15 hours per week and becomes an obstacle to academic success. For many students, the stresses of working make it difficult for them to graduate on time, or graduate with the high grades they have the potential to achieve.
- Scholarships can fill the gap. Scholarship assistance can support students who fall in the gap between high and low-income levels — students who may not qualify for a need-based scholarship and who do not meet the criteria for a merit-based scholarship.
We launched a new partnership with Scholarships360 to support our students in their academic journey. Founded in 2010, Scholarships360 has a database of over 5,000 scholarships. Through Scholarships360, students can now access external scholarship opportunities that are personalized to their unique needs and their academic goals. Encourage your student to set up an account with their student email account.
Campus Improvements
The University is investing in spaces that directly enhance your student’s experience on campus. LaMoy Field now features lights for the first time, allowing six teams to extend practices into the evening and
making it possible to host early evening soccer, lacrosse, and softball games. A new press box also supports coaches, announcers, and fans, creating a stronger game-day atmosphere. In addition, the first phase of the Traurig Library renovation has opened a beautiful outdoor patio space—giving students a new place to study, relax, and build community. Read more here.
