Program is Designed to Prepare a New Generation of Emergency Managers

Waterbury, CT (Oct. 2, 2018) – In today’s post 9/11 environment, the challenges faced by emergency management and homeland security professionals have reached unprecedented levels. To help meet this growing need, Post University has announced a new online program concentration in Emergency Management and Homeland Security (EMH) offered in the online Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree program.

Geared for the working professional, the online two-year MPA degree program prepares students to advance in their administrative, managerial or supervisory public administration careers in state, federal and local government organizations. According to Cynthia Anger, Program Chair and Director of Public Service Graduate Program, students in the EMH concentration will learn how the roles and responsibilities of emergency managers have changed
since 9/11 and will analyze how the agencies in the intelligence community work together to defend our nation.

“The demand for emergency services throughout our country increases each year and community expectations are high,” said Anger. “This program is designed to provide the next generation of emergency management and policy leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, respond to and achieve the best possible outcomes in disasters of all types.”

Rebecca Aldrich, from Uxbridge, Massachusetts, received her MPA degree from Post in 2015, with two decades of military and law enforcement experience and a stint in the Navy Reserves. She enrolled in the program to continue her education, acknowledging that Post is military-friendly. Now a sergeant with the Massachusetts Bay Community College Police Department in Wellesley, MA, she is looking forward to starting the EMH concentration courses.

“This will be quite relevant to my position in campus law enforcement,” she said. “This country is seeing an unprecedented spike in homegrown terrorism. In the past five years, I’ve already had to handle three separate scenarios involving armed students on campus with
unknown intent.”

The degree is offered through the John P. Burke School of Public Service and Education. Interested candidates should contact the Post University Admissions Team at 800.582.8250. or [email protected].
