WATERBURY, CT – (January 22, 2018) – Post University’s® John P. Burke School of Public Service, in collaboration with the Waterbury Police and Fire Departments and Holy Cross High School, will present a lecture by renowned veteran intelligence officer James Olson at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Holy Cross High School auditorium, 587 Oronoke Road in Waterbury.

A legend in the clandestine service who wrote about “The Moral Dilemmas of Spying,”
Olson’s lecture will be about “Intelligence and the Terrorist Threat: How Far Have We Come Since 9/11?”

Dave Jannetty, Program Chair of Post’s® Emergency Management and Homeland Security program, said the University is grateful to respected Waterbury business community members for the donations that are bringing this worldenowned speaker to town. Olson’s presentation is free and open to the public; however, advance registration is required. Those interested in attending should visit http://www.jamesolsonwaterburyevent.com/ for details and to
register.

At the height of the Cold War, Olson served on some of the CIA’s most difficult, dangerous and complicated assignments around the world. “I trusted him without reservation,” former Director of Central Intelligence Robert M. Gates said of Olson, “He was enormously capable, but also because I knew he thought deeply about the ethical and moral dimensions of what we did every day.”

A career officer, mostly overseas, in the Directorate of Operations at the Central Intelligence Agency, Olson received the Intelligence Medal of Merit, Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, Counterintelligence Excellence Medal, the Donovan Award and several distinguished achievement honors. He also was given the Silver Star Award for excellence in teaching at the George Bush School of Government and Public Service in College Station, TX.

A widely read and published author, Olson penned “The Ten Commandments of Counterintelligence,” and “Fair Play: The Moral Dilemmas of Spying.”

James Olson is the ‘real thing’ and a really big deal,” Jannetty noted.
