What inspired you to enter the field of education, or got you started on your professional path?

I decided to enter the field of education in 2010, following an 8-year career in sales. In looking for a management position, I came across Post University and the many opportunities that were available. After interviewing for the Assistant Director of Admissions position, I knew that Post was the right fit for me to grow and learn the new world of higher education.

Who was your female role model? Yes, you can credit your mom.

Throughout my sales career, several women exemplified leadership and paved the way for me to mature and develop as a sales person and leader. Vera Quinn and Brandie Park taught me how to lead by example, roll up my sleeves, and get the job done. They taught me the habits of being proactive and seeking first to understand before being understood.

I would also have to give credit to my wonderful mom who dedicated her life to her children, which has now taught me how to be a loving, caring and strict (sometimes) mother!

Do you want share your interest or involvement in a community organization?

This past July, I sadly lost my father to leukemia. I recently opened the Darrell Leigh Johnson Foundation in his honor. This non-profit organization will raise money to fight pediatric cancers including leukemia and lymphoma.

My 5-year-old son Colton is the process of creating a cool way to donate bottle and can redemptions around Connecticut to this great cause – his slogan is “fighting pediatric cancer, one can at a time!”
