As a student in the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology program at Post University, you will have access to learning experiences involving the study of the science of behavior and mental processes. These experiences are designed to help you develop strong academic and social skills for critical thinking, collaboration, oral and written expression, interpersonal effectiveness, and social maturity. They also offer an exploration of how to analytically review psychological literature and apply theory to practice by conducting your own psychology research projects.

BA in Psychology coursework provides a foundational liberal arts education. It emphasizes core areas, including personality, child and adolescent development, the relationship between the nervous system and behavior, societal and culture influence on human interaction, and the relationship between drugs, behavior, abnormal psychology, and the law. It also covers various scientific research methods—such as design and data analysis—as well as the factors that shape mental processes and behaviors.

What Could I Do with a BA in Psychology?

The program covers major concepts, theories, and empirical findings in psychology in order to explain and solve problems related to human behavior and mental processes. Skills acquired in this program could help prepare you for career path flexibility. You could find yourself involved in case management, rehabilitation, human services, administration, community and public relations, advertising and market research, education, non-profit work, and legislative affairs. Or, you could use your bachelor’s degree as a springboard into graduate-level work.

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree is not designed to fulfill the educational requirements for any professional credential, such as licenses for clinical psychology or therapy.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Concentrations

In addition to core psychology courses covering psychology fundamentals, development across the lifespan, social psychology, and more, you will have the opportunity to customize your degree to your future goals with one of these three concentrations:

Applied Behavior Analysis

The Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) concentration offers coursework in child development and educational psychology and provides critical background knowledge for real-world applications of ABA, as many behavior analysts work with children in educational settings. It also provides an introduction to the science of ABA with a focus on the application of learning theory principles to drive behavior change. Advanced coursework in ABA explores the roles and responsibilities of a behavior analyst, including functional behavior assessment, behavior data collection and analysis, as well as analysis of ethical issues in complex clinical cases.

This program is not designed to fulfill the educational requirements for any licensure or certification, such as for an ABA certification. Post University does not speak on behalf of any licensing board or body but does assist students in understanding licensure requirements.

Human Development, Education, and Health

This concentration covers issues regarding child development, adolescent development, educational psychology, and drugs and behavior. Courses could include an exploration of psychology in education, for children and adolescents, and an introduction to counseling.

Industrial/Organizational Psychology

This concentration seeks to provide a better understanding of the application of psychological principles to examine individual and group interactions in a variety of settings, including the workplace. Courses could include an introduction to industrial/organizational psychology and management courses in organizational behavior and organizational theory and development.

Is psychology a 4-year degree?
