Concentrations

Clinical Counseling within Organizational Settings
This concentration provides you with the conceptual, analytical and operational knowledge you’ll need to begin or advance your career in clinical counseling. Courses cover a comprehensive study of the issues involved with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of various psychiatric disorders. You’ll also develop an in-depth understanding of the primary models, theories and techniques in individual, group and family counseling.

Alcohol and Drug Counseling
In this concentration, you’ll gain an understanding of the complex issues regarding alcohol and drug addiction in American society. You will learn the biological, psychological and sociological effects of short and/or long-term use of substances on the individual, family and community and how to assess, diagnose and treat those addictions using the latest and best practices. You may also be able to apply credits toward earning your professional counseling licensure.

Non-Profit Management
Coursework in this concentration focuses on the complexity and interconnectedness of human problems, social and cultural forces, national policies, and the demands of organizational work. You will learn and hone skills in grant writing, planning and managing of people, preparing program budgets, and implementing information systems.

Forensic Mental Health Counseling
Through this concentration, you’ll develop the theoretical, analytical and clinical skills required to provide counseling services to juveniles and adults involved in the justice system. You will explore concepts related to criminal behavior and psychopathology, forensic assessment, and victimology as a way to understand how the judicial system and human services field work together. You may also be able to apply credits toward earning your professional licensure.
