New program provides enhanced opportunities to close skills gap for both State employees and Connecticut-based tax professionals

WATERBURY, Conn. (March 6, 2023) – Post University developed a specialized curriculum focused on state taxes for State of Connecticut employees and area tax professionals. The three-credit course, which is available to the public as well as state employees, covers topics including personal and corporate income taxes, as well as excise and sales taxes specific to Connecticut.

With a proven record of accomplishment in online learning launching its first online programs over 25 years ago, creating one-of-a-kind coursework specifically curated for Connecticut tax professionals was a natural fit for Post University. Within the past year, Post has created professional development programs for the WMBA’s Connecticut Sun, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, and the YMCA of CT/RI Alliance.  In addition, Post’s business school created two professional development programs for Drew Marine’s international employees working in Asia, Europe, and the United States.

This State Taxation Course is the only one of its kind offered in Connecticut. Post University is also offering state employees a 20 percent tuition reduction as well as additional education benefits that supports employees and their families reaching their personal and professional goals.

“Our Post University faculty created the specialized curriculum for the tax community in Connecticut,” said Post University Provost Elizabeth Johnson, Ph.D. “This course is not only an investment in the professional development of state employees; it is a valuable tool to strengthen the local and state tax knowledge for practicing professionals. We’re beyond proud to be the only university in the state offering practical solutions like this for tax professionals.”

Post University Assistant Dean for Graduate Business Programs Alisa Hunt, Ph.D., worked closely with Deputy Commissioner of the State of Connecticut Department of Revenue Services John Biello to develop the course. Their collaboration ensured all relevant and pertinent material are included in the curriculum. The first State Taxation Course cohort began the program in January.

“This is a wonderful continuing education opportunity for not only DRS employees but for those practicing tax professional in Connecticut,” said Biello. “Post University’s dedication to the needs of its working professionals makes this course a perfect solution for practicing tax professionals in Connecticut. There is no other course within Connecticut focused on specific state and local tax laws.”

The Connecticut State Tax course is the newest example of Post’s dedication to fostering continuing workplace development initiatives in collaboration with various industries. The university currently partners with more than 250 businesses, designing customized training for employees. Prior to launching a program with the state of Connecticut, Post University partnered with Arizona’s Maricopa County and the CT Conference of Municipalities (CCM) to offer access to career development opportunities at reduced tuition rates.
