A Brief History

1890 - 1920s

1890
Founded as the Matoon Shorthand School offering training in business essentials such as typing and bookkeeping

1897
Acquired by Harry C. Post and renamed Waterbury Business College

1930-1950s

1931
Renamed Post College

1960s

1965
Moved to current Main Campus location on Country Club Road in Waterbury, Connecticut

1970 - 1980s

1976
Became four-year institution, beginning to offer baccalaureate degrees in 1980

1990
Briefly affiliated with Teikyo University, renamed Teikyo Post University

1996
Teikyo Post University becomes the first college in both Connecticut and New England to offer accredited, accelerated degree programs fully online

2000s

2004
Renamed Post University

2007
Post University offers CT’s first fully online Master of Business Administration degree

2010s

2011
Post University names its School of Public Service after long-time Waterbury business and civic leader, John P. Burke

2012
Business school renamed The Malcolm Baldrige School of Business

2020s

2021
American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University is established

Main Campus Facts

Post University makes its main campus home on 58 beautiful acres in welcoming community of Waterbury, Connecticut.

On it you will find six residence halls, several lecture halls, the Leever Dining Hall & Student Center, the Drubner Fitness Center, Traurig Library, and our Student Health Center.


In the middle of it all stands a stately Camperdown Elm known as the Post Tree, added to the list of Connecticut’s Notable Trees in 2014.
