This course will engage the students in the theoretical and practical underpinnings of the effective design of learning environments and experiences. Students will have the opportunity to learn and apply theories and models of design to produce adaptive learning environments to meet the needs of evolving learner populations. Students will be introduced to principles of design from a variety of fields to stimulate the creation of environments and experiences for diverse groups of learners. Particular attention will be given to designing active learner-centered learning environments.
Integrating Learning and Technology
Students will experience many different types of technology and discover a variety of ways to incorporate those technologies into teaching and learning activities. The course will provide an overview of key research and resources for integrating technology into learning experiences in order to enhance engagement and learner outcomes. Students will be exposed to current and emerging technologies used in various education settings. They will experiment with and apply these technology tools by engaging in learning challenge activities and creating a four-part, technology-infused final course project. The course will encourage students to be innovative and thoughtful in integrating technology to improve teaching and learning.
Analysis of Learning Design
This course uses a case-based approach to improve learners’ problem-solving skills in the field of learning design. Learners in this course will engage in analysis of cases set in real-world learning design environments and scenarios. Through analysis and discussion, learners will work to identify the main issues of a case and propose solutions that are based on research and generally accepted learning design theories, models, and principles.
Managing Technology Infused Projects
This course will introduce students to the planning and management of technology and instructional design projects in a variety of education settings, including K-12 classrooms, higher education, online education, and corporate training. Students will have the opportunity to understand and apply principles of Agile project management to a project in their chosen environment, including the development of a project proposal that addresses learner assessment, stakeholder analysis, communications, project scheduling, risk planning, quality assurance, and iterative cycles of project work in a collaborative team environment.
