Caitlin Grant
Assistant Director, Online Honors Program
School Attended: Albertus Magnus College
Major: Communication
Toughest Class: College Algebra… I’m not a math person!
Favorite Class: Introduction to Sociology. The Head Sociology professor and my Communication Program Chair were very close and many of their classes had overlapping themes, which I found interesting. However, I also greatly enjoyed Greek Mythology which was taught by one of the nuns on campus, Sister Mary Faith Dargan. She was a passionate instructor. It’s a toss – up between those two classes
Where did you spend most of your time? My friend Heather and I used to love visiting the restaurants and stores near our campus on Dixwell Ave. in Hamden. We loved our freedom to explore as we pleased! Otherwise, I was mostly reading and studying at home. I was an introvert and a very serious student
Did you live on campus? I didn’t live on campus. I was anxious about it and dragged my feet, so I didn’t get housing my first year. My mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis my freshman year, so I ended up just living at home the whole time to help her out
Did you work while in school? Yes, I was a lifeguard and swim instructor at the pool that used to be in Drubner! I worked there from ages 16-22
How far away was your family? I had a 40 minute commute each day, but lived at home
Did you know anyone at your school freshman year? No, but I ended up meeting my closest college friend, Heather, at freshman orientation
Favorite hangout? I was usually found in one of the dorms of my friends who lived on campus. I mostly frequented the ones with large stashes of snacks
Favorite dining hall meal or favorite go-to meal: The dining hall made mini-calzones that were delicious!
What were the big fashion trends? Flared jeans were very popular
Did you find love in college? Not lasting love
Name something you tried. Did you stick with it? I dabbled in playing competitive scrabble in clubs and tournaments. I did not stick with it, but I still love playing for fun!
Song on the radio: I was a big fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in college. I’m not sure if there was just one song. Their album “By the Way” was a particular favorite
What’s one thing you wish someone had told you during your first year? I wish someone had told me to be less shy and to be open to making more friends and participating in professional development activities. I wasn’t always the outgoing person I am today!
