The English Language Institute provides academic and English language support for adult learners whose native language is not English. The program helps students develop proficiencies in English for work and/or academic life. The English Language Institute is housed within Academic Affairs and was designed for students who wish to accomplish English language competencies before applying to a college or for life within the United States, and those students who are currently enrolled in Post University courses and need additional English language support. The English Language Institute is staffed by qualified instructors who have advanced certifications and degrees in teaching English as a Second Language. They have lived or taught in other countries or have learned other languages. The program offers credit and non-credit courses that focus on English-language learners’ skills across a variety of learning levels. The English Language Institute is offered both online and on campus, and students enrolled in the program may be eligible to live in Post University housing.
Placement
Students who apply to Post University whose native language is not English are given an English proficiency placement exam to determine language capabilities or exemption from the program. Students placed in the English Language Institute Intensive English Program (IEP) take English as a Second Language courses that range from beginner to advanced level. Students may take up to 12 credits of English as a Second Language courses and apply them toward a Post University degree. Additional courses are offered for students in need of further language training. Students who achieve advanced English language proficiency may begin taking regular courses upon meeting the learning competencies benchmarks and upon recommendation by the Program Chair of the English Language Institute.

Students who do not meet the minimum score requirements on one of the approved English proficiency examinations, or who do not have qualifying test scores, may take the English placement test to determine whether and where they should begin coursework in the ELI program.
