University Pathways Program
The University Pathways Program (UPP) is a transitions program that helps high school seniors with Individualized Education Programs (IEP) develop necessary life skills and, in some cases, prepare for college. These students usually enroll in a couple of freshman-level college courses in the fall and spring semesters, earning up to 12 college credits while in the UPP at Post.
With the addition of a Program Chair and a partnership with EdAdvance of Litchfield—one of Connecticut’s six Regional Educational Service Centers—we have strengthened our UPP offerings to provide two defined pathways for incoming students. Our University Track offers a college path for qualifying students while the Emerging Learners Track helps students build life and coping skills to become more self-sufficient adults.
Depending on the terms of the IEP, UPP students have access to a wide range of support services not usually available to their non-UPP classmates, including weekly specialized counseling, tutoring from a special education teacher, support from a professional speech specialist, and other invaluable services.
English Language Institute (ELI)
For learners whose first language is not English, Post offers 15 English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) courses to become more proficient in English. These 8-week ESL courses form the English Language Institute (ELI) and provide learners with six levels of reading & writing coursework as well as six levels of listening & speaking coursework. ELI courses provide critical support for international students as they strengthen English speaking and comprehension skills before diving into degree-specific classes. All 15 ELI courses can also be taken online through the Accelerated Degree Program, making classes available to off-campus learners.
